Sportscene is BBC Scotland's regular TV sports programme which has been running since Saturday 9 August 1975.

History

Sportscene took over the 30-minute Saturday evening BBC One slot previously occupied by the Sportsreel programme from the beginning of the 1975/76 football season. The first edition was broadcast from 22:00–22:25 on Saturday 9 August 1975. The Radio Times described the show as "Scotland's new look Saturday night sports magazine where the emphasis is on football but includes a round-up of other sports of the day." The programme nonetheless remained a predominantly football based, continuing the pattern of one Scottish match from the newly established Premier League followed by an English game and occasionally some rugby or bowls.

The commentary for Scottish matches was provided by Archie MacPherson and sometimes Alistair Alexander.
